Chapter 47 of their own Gospel Principles manual talks extensively about the plan of salvation according to Mormons, including why we are here, where we were before we came here, and what we can obtain for ourselves if we just hand over control of our mortal lives to the church and its leaders. They promise EXALTATION in exchange for complete obedience to their prophets and unshakable loyalty to the church.
Here are some choice sections of text:
What Is Exaltation?
Exaltation is eternal life, the kind of life God lives. He lives in great glory. He is perfect. He possesses all knowledge and all wisdom. He is the Father of spirit children. He is a creator. We can become like our Heavenly Father. This is exaltation.
If we prove faithful to the Lord, we will live in the highest degree of the celestial kingdom of heaven. We will become exalted, just like our Heavenly Father. Exaltation is the greatest gift that Heavenly Father can give his children (see D&C 14:7).
Does it seem strange that a "Christian" religion like Mormonism would claim that men can become Gods eventually?
Blessings of Exaltation
Our Heavenly Father is perfect. However, he is not jealous of his wisdom and perfection. He glories in the fact that it is possible for his children to become like him. He has said, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man" (Moses 1:39).
Those who receive exaltation in the celestial kingdom through faith in Jesus Christ will receive special blessings. The Lord has promised, "All things are theirs" (D&C 76:59). These are some of the blessings given to exalted people:
- They will live eternally in the presence of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ (see D&C 76).
- They will become gods.
- They will have their righteous family members with them and will be able to have spirit children also. These spirit children will have the same relationship to them as we do to our Heavenly Father. They will be an eternal family.
- They will receive a fullness of joy.
- They will have everything that our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have--all power, glory, dominion, and knowledge. President Joseph Fielding Smith wrote: "The Father has promised through the Son that all that he has shall be given to those who are obedient to his commandments. They shall increase in knowledge, wisdom, and power, going from grace to grace, until the fullness of the perfect day shall burst upon them" (Doctrines of Salvation, 2:36).
One last point: Why doesn't Gordon Hinckley just ADMIT that he is the prophet of a religion that teaches, "As men are God once was, as God is, man may become" ?
Requirements for Exaltation
The time to fulfill the requirements for exaltation is now (see Alma 34:32-34). President Joseph Fielding Smith said, "In order to obtain the exaltation we must accept the gospel and all its covenants; and take upon us the obligations which the Lord has offered; and walk in the light and understanding of the truth; and 'live by every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God' " (Doctrines of Salvation, 2:43).
To be exalted, we first must place our faith in Jesus Christ and then endure in that faith to the end of our lives. Our faith in him must be such that we repent of our sins and obey his commandments.
He commands us all to receive certain ordinances:
- We must be baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.
- We must receive the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- We must receive the temple endowment.
- We must be married for time and eternity.
This teaching is what makes Mormons different from Christians. Mitt won't tell you that he secretly believes he can obtain Godhood in the afterlife. Gordon isn't going to appear live on Larry King and actually admit that Mormons are working towards EXALTATION, not just getting a spot in heaven, but actually OWNING a piece of it by becoming a God of their own world, with many plural wives begetting all of the spiritual beings that will one day request the opportunity to progress towards godhood themselves. And so the cycle continues.
Do I have a problem with this belief system? Absolutely NOT! I have NO problem with this belief, it is no stranger than Islam or Buddhist beliefs to me. Whatever you want to think happens to you when you die, fine with me. I'm not trying to persuade anyone from following the dictates of their own conscience....
WHAT I DO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH is that the Mormon church will not come right out and ADMIT that this is what they teach. They hide it. They withhold it from new members. They disguise it as something that is supposedly not very well known or focused on, and that is a LIE!!! They lure people into the belief by revealing little by little, and drawing people carefully down into it, swamping them with love and encouragement, assigning home teachers and visiting teachers, and giving them "callings" to help them feel positioned in the system, and then gradually introduce these new doctrines while sitting sleepily in Gospel Doctrine class, surrounded by folks who have already accepted these teachings as true and "lost Christian principles" that Christ supposedly revealed in the early days of the true church, but were done away with and corrupted by man. Soon, the new convert comes to believe whatever his leaders tell him, because he is chasing the dream of having his family sealed to him forever, and believing in the power of the Mormon promise that this is the only way to ensure togetherness in the afterlife. They hold the only keys of the priesthood authority on the earth, and without the Mormons there is no way to reach the highest level of heaven.
If they would just openly teach this, and come right out with it, I would have no problem. But because they lie in wait to deceive, I cannot just let it go unchecked and unchallenged.
I would stay away from any coven or pagan gathering that led me to believe they only focused on positive energy, and then later revealed themselves as a dark path organization preaching white supremacy, and I definitely would expose them if I ever found such a group. I would put orange flags around them and let everyone who asked know my thoughts exactly.
That's what this site is for. It's called MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY. This is where I put out my orange flags and tell anyone that finds me through the powers of Google just exactly where I stand when it comes to Mormons.
Not interested? Check out one of my other sites. I have a couple more blogs that have nothing to do with Mormons. www.scipa.blogspot.com is one of them. I'm also starting a new blog at www.astartemoonsilver.blogspot.com called Astarte Moonsilver. I'll start posting my sabbats and esbats there, along with some full moon rituals and quarter-calls, and stuff I get from my 78 book library on all things Wiccan and Gnostic. Oh, and I also started a blog at Covenspace.
If hearing about Mormons day in and day out is not your bag, then come see me elsewhere on the web. I promise I'm not so one sided...

I feel sorry for people whose whole belief structure is proven to be a lie. Where do they go and what do they do?They come out fighting! They just can't accept that everything they believe in might not be true.
For me however it was just a relief.
I would like to hear your exit story sometime. Have you ever come across the Recovery from Mormonism board? I have a link to it on the side of my blog....There are hundreds of exit stories posted there, and a very busy bulletin board with 100,000 hits a day! That's what helped me on my journey out of the Morg, that and other former members like me who just got PISSED OFF and decided to let the world know what a con-game the Mormon church is playing.
